Everything comes out, right down to the roots
Clearing is for when the land has to be bare and buildable. The trees come down, the brush gets pushed, the stumps get dug out with the excavator, and the dozer rough grades what is left so the lot drains. When we drive out, you are standing on dirt you can build on.

Which one do you actually need
People use both words for the same job, and they are not the same job. The difference is what you are left standing on when we drive out.
Land and lot clearing
Trees dropped, brush cleared and the stumps dug out with the excavator. The wood is hauled off or buried on the property and the lot gets rough graded so water runs off it.
Building lots, driveways, anywhere the stumps have to come out
Forestry mulching
Brush and stems up to about six inches ground in place. Stumps stay in the ground. You are left with a chip mat over undisturbed soil, so nothing washes and you can walk or drive it right away.
Trails, camp lots, fence lines, overgrown acreage, slopes
If you are putting a building on it, you want clearing. If you want the land back and usable without tearing the ground up, mulching does it faster and cheaper. If you are not sure which, that is what the walk-through is for.

What moves the number
Nobody can price a clearing job off a phone call. Two lots that are both “about an acre of woods” can be days apart in machine time. Here is what we are actually looking at when we walk it.
How many trees, and how big
Big hardwood takes longer to drop, cut up and move than a lot of young growth. A count of the trees over about a foot across tells us more than the acreage does.
The stumps
Every stump gets dug, and a big stump on a mature tree is a real hole. Stumps are usually the biggest share of the time on a wooded lot.
What happens to the wood
Burying it on the property is the cheapest way to deal with it if you have the room. Hauling it off takes truck time. Decking the logs for you to keep or sell is somewhere in between.
Ground and season
Frozen ground carries the machines and does not rut. Wet spring ground does the opposite. Winter is often the cheapest time to clear a lot.
Getting in and out
The machines come in on our own lowboy. If there is somewhere to unload near the work, that is time nobody pays for.
How finished you want it
Rough graded so it drains is the standard. Shaped for a foundation, a driveway or a lawn is more dozer time, and we can do that too.
We come out and look at it before we give you a number, and the number comes before any machine comes off the trailer. The walk-through doesn’t cost anything.

What people ask first
Do the stumps come out?
Yes. We dig them out with the excavator so there is nothing left under the surface to rot, settle or catch a footing later. Grinding them off at the surface is not clearing.
What happens to the trees?
Your call. We can bury the wood on the property if there is room, haul it off, or deck the logs for you to keep or sell. We go over the options on the walk-through.
Can you clear in the winter?
Winter is one of the best times. Frozen ground carries the machines without rutting and the leaves are down so you can see what you have. Some of our biggest clearing jobs have been done in the snow.
How long does it take?
It depends on the tree count, the stumps and what happens to the wood, which is why we walk it first. When we give you the number we give you a time frame with it.
Can you shape it for a foundation or a driveway?
Yes. Rough grading so it drains is included. Shaping it for a foundation, a driveway or a lawn is dozer and excavator work we do all the time, and we price it with the clearing.
How far ahead do I need to book?
Book early. The schedule fills up a long way out. Tell us the date you need to hit and we’ll tell you straight whether we can make it.
